PROTEINS | IMPORTANCE OF PROTEIN, SOURCES, DEFICIENCY
Hello, Here in this
Article, We are going to tell you things every student must know about Proteins.
We bet you, most of
this things, this will be your first time to know it.
- · IMPORTANCE OF PROTEINS
- · SOURES OF PROTEINS
ETC.
DEFINITIONS OF PROTEINS
According to WIKIPEDIA,
Proteins are large biomolecules, or macromolecules, consisting of one or more long chains of amino acid residues.Proteins perform a vast array of functions within organisms, including catalysing metabolic reactions, DNA replication, responding to stimuli, and transporting molecules from one location to another.
OR
Proteins are organic compound consisting of carbon,
hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen atoms but some proteins contain little phosphorus
and sulphur atoms.
Proteins have complex
structures consisting of chains of Amino
acids which are the smallest
(basic} unites.
IMPORTANCE OF PROTEINS
Below are the important of proteins.
1.
Proteins are mostly needed for growth
2.
They are used to repairs of worn out or damaged
tissues.
3.
Proteins are used to make enzymes hormones
4.
They give certain amount of energy.
5.
They are used to make white blood cells and anti-bodies

What Happens When proteins Is Inadequately
In Our Food ?
If the person is an
Adult, ill health results but if the person is a growing child, retarded
growth, weak muscles, distended stomach, swollen legs, loos of weight, and
changes of hair color usually from dark to red results.
This conditions is called Kwashiorkor ( a disease of
protein deficiency in diet}.
Examples of food rich in Animal proteins are ; Milk, Eggs, Meat,
Chicken, Fish, and snail.
These animals
proteins are sometimes called first class Proteins because they are more useful
to the body as they contain most of the essential amino acids.
People who depends solely on plant proteins are like to suffer
from deficiency disease.
Vegetation’s should
carefully select a combination of plant
proteins that will complement each other so as to make up for each other’s deficiencies
