BIOGRAPHY OF DEACONESS EKANEM ESSIEN ITA

DEACONESS EKANEM ESSIEN ITA MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH
:
“Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord……………… that they may rest from their labours, for their deeds follow them” Rev. 14:13.

BIRTH/PARENTAGE:
Deaconess Ekanem Essien Ita was born on the 10th day of November, 1950. Her father was Late Elder Asuquo Okon Ayimo from Okoyong Usangabasi in Odukpani Local Government Area and her mother Late Madam Nkoyo Awa of Ikot Nakanda in Akpabuyo Local Government Area all in Cross River State. She was the 2nd child in the line up of 5 children in the family.
EDUCATION: Mama attended St. Mary’s Primary School Efut Abua – Calabar but could not go beyond that level. That was because she was born at the time when little or no value was attached to female education, even though as a child she was said to have distinguished herself by her good retentive memory and a strong reasoning power.
However, the basic knowledge she acquired was enough to move her from darkness to light to appreciate the essence of education and to avail her on how to make a life out of it. This was why she tried as much as she could to sacrifice her comfort and the little she had to send her children both males and females to school especially those that were willing to.
SOCIAL LIFE: Mama was very sociable and amiable. She was an epitome of love, peace and honesty. She was fondly called, known and addressed by her associates as Ikwo Mma or Eka Enobong. She was very generous and her generosity knew no bounds. She was a foster mother to the motherless. During her hay days she was able to touch many lives positively. Eka Enobong was always ready to share the little food she could have reserved for her own children just to make sure that those who were less privileged could eat as well, especially during festive periods such as Christmas and Easter. Indeed, she would be missed by many.
MARITAL LIFE: Ikwo Mma was a very beautiful woman of her time, no doubt she was easily attracted to her late husband Deacon Essien Ita Essien of Enembe/Mesembe Asikpo Ito Royal Families in Efut Ibonda in Odukpani Local Government Area Cross River State. The marriage was blessed with 6 children – 3 males and 3 females. All are alive today to bid her farewell.
CHRISTIAN LIFE: Ikwo Mma was born into a Christian family. Her late father was an elder in the Hill of Salvation Church and so Mama automatically from her youthful age became a member and incidentally when she was due for marriage she got married to a member of the same church. She grew up to imbibe the doctrines of the Hill of Salvation Church to the latter. She was a shining example to both old women and young ladies within and outside the church .In the year 2002, precisely 15th day of December she was ordained as a deaconess. A post she held and was able to defend till illness set in during which time she was rendered incapacitated, but she did not denounce her faith. However, while in Uyo with her first daughter she identified herself with the Apostolic Church faithful as she worshipped at the Apostolic Church Nigeria Sylvanus Avenue Assembly, Anua Offot District at that time. Her faith in God her maker was unshakable. Indeed, she was a woman of faith.
HER LAST DAYS: Ikwo Mma took ill in February, 2009 and was immediately sent to Uyo in Akwa Ibom State to be cared for by her first daughter, in an effort to help her recover from the ailment. She was taken to various health facilities both within and outside Uyo, but to no avail. Eka Enobong’s ill health defiled all forms of medical care. She then advised that she should not be taken to any hospital again. Mma became completely bed ridden about two years ago during which time everything was done for her while in bed, but to God be the glory for the enablement He has given us to endure with her to a peaceful end. Two months before her final home call, she called her first daughter and her husband that is the son-inlaw and said in her own dialect – “mmong ndiyong ufok mi, owo aka ufok owo onyong”. Finally, on Sunday the 14th day of August, 2016 at about 10:30pm Eka Enobong breathed her last. May her gentle soul find solace in the bosom of her maker in Jesus name- Amen.
She is survived by 6 children, 2 sisters, in laws, nieces, nephews and a host of others too numerous to mention to mourn her loss.

TRIBUTE TO MY MUMMY LOVE
Oh death, where is thy victory? You have taken away the life of my beloved mother at the time I did not expect. Mum your untimely death is very painful to me -because the vacuum created would be difficult to fill. Death does not allow you to enjoy the fruits of your labour, but I do hope that on the resurrection morning we shall meet to part no more.
I have no right to question the one that gave because He has the right to take it back.

A woman of peace as you are going back to your creator, May He grants you eternal rest in His bosom. Amen
Koko Mummy, (Mrs. Esther Joe)

TRIBUTE TO MY LOVING GRAND MOTHER
Grandma, you were so lovely to me for some special reasons. Going down memory lane, I am made to understand that I cried a lot when I was a baby, but inspite of that my grandma used to tie me on her back to watt market every day where she was selling so that my mother could go to work.

My grandmother never got tired of buying me presents, any time she visited us in Uyo. The day I was about leaving Nigeria for Europe I went to her while on sick bed to bid her fare well, she blessed me and even asked me to come back and take her to Europe so that she may have the opportunity to board Aeroplane.

Now that she is gone home without boarding aeroplane, I pray that God should grant her eternal rest in His bosom. Grandma fare ye well.
Your Grandson

TRIBUTE TO MY LOVING AND CARING MOTHER
(EKA ENO-OBONG)
Though death is a necessary end and inevitable, sometimes it is difficult to appreciate especially when it happen to someone so dearly loved.
Mama, you deserved to be described as a virtuous woman according to the Holy bible. A woman of faith indeed. I can  remember the time I went through hardship during my early marriage to the point of breaking away, but you always prayed for me and advised that God would see us through you warned me against divorce. Now that the prayer has been answered you are no more to be part of the success story.

Eka Eno-obong I will never forget your prayer for us your children to succeed in life as well as your grand children even while on sick bed you never stopped admonishing us with the word of God. I want to believe that you have fought a good fight and that you have finished your course, you have kept the faith. May the good Lord grant you rest in His bosom.

Your favorite song has always been Obong nam se ifonde fi ke enyong. I want to believe He has done His will.
Good bye Eka-Enobong
Deaconess Mercy O. Okokon
(First Daughter)

TRIBUTE TO MY LOVELY MOTHER
Sweet mother as I used to call you, it is a pity that you left me when I needed you most. However, I cannot question God since death is a necessary end. I will always remember you. Sweet mother rest in peace. Sanga – sung.
Arit Essien Ita
(2nd Daughter)

TRIBUTE TO MY GRANDMA
Grandma it is a pity that you left me when I least expected. I would have loved to tap wisdom from you but death has taken you away. I believe it is the will of God to take you home at this time. I miss you grandma. Bye till we meet again to part no more. Adieu Mma.
Blessing
(Grand Daughter)

TRIBUTE TO MY BELOVED MOTHER
Death is inevitable to man, something man cannot avoid when it is time, mother you were a great and virtuous woman and a woman of substance, today you are not here with me to enjoy what you laboured for, you left me so untimely when I did not expect, rest in peace. It is hard to say goodbye, but I will only keep memory of you. May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.
Mr. Essien Ita Essien (Your last born)

TRIBUTE TO A SPECIAL MOTHER- IN LAW
It is observable that Actors or Actresses who receive much ovations do not stay on stage for too long. This confirms the maxim that says good things do not last. This is the case with Deaconess Ekanem Essien Ita who happened to have been my mother substitute now late. Mama as I used to call you, I substituted you for my biological mother whom I lost at a very tender age but by sheer providence you came into my life to fill the vacuum.

I can vividly recall with nostalgia  the motherly role you played during the early part of my marriage to your Daughter that almost hit the rock but you gave us the hope that the  future was going to be brighter, and I give God the glory that it has come to pass.
